SPRING / SUMMER 13

COLLECTION STATEMENT

Shaun Samson’s Spring/Summer ‘13 collection is an inward exploration of the male self during adolescence. It’s a peek into teen angst, and a reference to different ways guys deal with and release their emotions though geeking out on their hobbies. Some boys fix up their cars, while others alter their own bodies through tattoos and piercing. He also researches how people from different cultures personalise and customise their vehicles with auto body parts and decorations. This includes low riders in America and Japanese dekotora trucks. Reappropriating the needle punch felting Samson is known for, he uses the technique in a more conceptual way this season with printing, and has been able to make a garment morph into itself.
